statoscope [statɔskɔp] n. m.
ÉTYM. 1889, cit.; de stato-, et -scope.
Techn., sc. Instrument fondé sur le principe du baromètre différentiel, utilisé à bord des avions (des aérostats, etc.) pour déterminer les variations d'altitude.
0 Nous avons aussi construit un Statoscope, appareil beaucoup plus sensible que le baromètre ordinaire. Pour reconnaître en ballon si l'on monte ou si l'on descend, on se sert parfois d'une feuille de papier à cigarettes qu'on laisse tomber de la nacelle; mais ce papier a lui-même un poids appréciable. Le statoscope que nous fabriquons est à cadran ou enregistreur.
